Early College and Career is a key learning initiative at SMCJUHSD

What is AVID
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is offered as an elective course that meets regularly for 1 period each day. Each week, students
receive two periods of instruction, two periods of tutor led study groups, and 1 period of motivational
activities and academic skill development (e.g., critical reading and writing skills). AVID students are
encouraged to take honors/Advanced Placement courses through their four years of high school.

AVID Mission

AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and global career
opportunities. South Monterey County Joint Union High School District AVID Schools
